World Champions and Olympians Will Lead the International Field of Cyclists Competing in 2017 World Cup Series with Events in Great Britain, the Netherlands & Columbia Leading to Finals in Los Angeles February 25-26, 2017.
September 29, 2016 (Los Angeles and Carson, CA) – The VELO Sports Center at StubHub Center, the only indoor velodrome of Olympic standards in the United States, has been selected to host the fourth and final event of the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Cup February 25-26, 2017, it was announced by Kristin Klein, Executive Vice President AEG Sports.
The annual international cycling series, which kicks-off November 4-6, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland, features both individual and team events for men and women who will be competing for the overall World Cup Championship as well as attempting to qualify for the 2017 World Championships being held in Hong Kong, April 12-16, 2017. The series will also travel to Apeldoorn, Netherlands, November 11-13, 2016 and Cali, Colombia, February 17-19, 2017 before its concluding stop in southern California for the final two days of competition.
American Sarah Hammer, an 8-time World Champion, 4-time Olympic Silver Medalist and current World Record Holder in Women’s Individual Pursuit, is expected to headline the list of World Champions and Olympians competing in the World Cup Championships which were last held in Los Angeles in 2008.
“The Los Angeles World Cup will be the highest level track race within the U.S. in the last 10 years and I am excited to be lining up and showing off the rainbow world champion stripes on my home track in front of all of our Team USA supporters,” said Hammer. “With the United States’ first-ever World Championship win in the team pursuit combined with our two Olympic medals in Rio, 2016 has been a historic year for U.S. Track Cycling and the Los Angeles World Cup will provide us a chance to say thank you to all of our supporters.”
The 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Cup will feature men’s competition in the Keirin, Madison, Omnium, Scratch and Sprint events with the women cyclists competing in Keirin, Sprint, Madison, Individual Pursuit and Team Pursuit events. “Bringing the 2016-17 UCI Track World Cup to U.S. soil is a tremendous opportunity for the sport in our country,” said USA Cycling CEO Derek Bouchard-Hall. “American fans will have the chance to watch the world’s best in person at a fantastic venue, which presents an opportunity to make a large impact on the growth of track cycling here at home.”

Developed and operated by AEG, the VELO Sports Center, which opened in 2004 as part of StubHub Center on the Campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA, has previously hosted the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008; the 2004 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships; 2005 Elite Track Cycling World Championships and 2012 UCI Paracycling Track World Championships. Home to USA Cycling and designated as an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site, the venue has been selected to host men’s and women’s track cycling as well as Paralympic cycling events as part of Los Angeles’ 2024 Olympic bid.
